Volunteer with the Chilliwack Lions Club

The Chilliwack Lions Club requires the help of 2 students to work in their Flea Market on Saturdays.  This is a great way to give back to your community by contributing to an organization that helps support many individuals and organizations throughout Chilliwack.  Work Experience hours will be provided to students that participate in this worthwhile opportunity.  Please contact the Work Experience Dept. or your school Career Advisor to get involved. 

R.C.M.P. Youth Academy 2010

It is YEAR 12 of the R.C.M.P. Youth Academy!  If you have an interest is learning about policing as a career, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!  The R.C.M.P. Youth Academy is an intensive, 9-day work experience, during which students participate in an authentic cadet training program.  Cadets will spend time in class, learning from experts in a variety of policing fields.  Cadets will complete several simulated arrest scenarios, and participate in a physical training program as a part of their training.  This Work Experience is designed to give students a real-life taste of R.C.M.P. training.

Dates for this year's camp are March 4 - 12.  GET YOUR APPLICATIONS IN A.S.A.P.!!!

If you have not received an application package, please pick one up at your school Career Centre. 

Other Important Dates:

Dec 4 - Application Deadline (Submit to your school Career Advisor)
Dec 9 - Physical Fitness Testing Completed (SSS Track)
Dec 14 - 16 - Suitability Interviews Completed (Date and time will be provided at the Fitness Test)

Career Spot-Lite Sessions

The Work Experience Dept. is offereing several Career Spot-Lite sessions over the school year.  These 3-hour Career "Samplers" are designed to deliver real-life insights into specific career areas.  Students will hear a presentation about the featured profession, followed by an open Q & A session.  Students can use these Spot-Lite sessions as Work Experience hours.  Click here for an advance schedule of upcoming Career Spot-Lite sessions. 

The first Career Spot-Lite session is scheduled for Wednesday, November 25.  Sign up to hear Mr. Jason Lum, President of the Myriad Group of Companies.  Mr. Lum is a local entrepreneur that has established a very successful local internet technology company.  Click here to view the information.

Promontory Youth Night Work Experience

If you are interested in getting some volunteer experience working with youth, check out this opportunity!  Promontory Heights Community School requires volunteer Leaders, to help coordinate and run Friday Night activities for youth in grades 6 - 8.  You will be responsible for gym activities, theme nights, computer lab activities, and the concession.  Gain practical employability skills, such as responsibility, time management, organization, and leadership!  Contact the Work Experience Dept. today to get involved with this FUN Work Experience placement! What a great way to earn your 30 hours!!! 

ATTENTION WEX 12 STUDENTS!!!

If you are registered in a WEX 12 course, this year, students are reminded that they must complete ALL WEX 12 written activities and assignments.  This is a new component of WEX 12, in addition to your Work Experience placements.  If you do not complete the WEX 12 assignments, you will not receive credit for the course.

2009/10 Work Experience at Science World!

Attention Grade 11 and 12 Science Students:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE: MEDICAL PLACEMENTS

The Work Experience Dept. has recently been informed of a decison by the B.C. College of Physicians and Surgeons to stop the practice of job shadowing by students in a physician's office, clinic or hospital setting.  Therefore, the SD#33 Work Experience Dept. will regrettably no longer be able to accomodate requests for these types of placements.  To view the College of Physicians and Surgeons policy document, click here.
